Hewlett Packard said farewell to the complete hardware – but not of webOS

Yesterday, the news is then when Hewlett Packard in the short term, cease production of webOS devices and announced separate from its PC business. At the same time, the software company “Autonomy” for more than 10 billion is taken. What is the problem? In order:

1. The business with webOS devices is defined. Will HP no other tablets or smartphones bring to the market. Palm/HP 3 meadow, mini-Smartphone Veer and the touchpad of HP are so dead. This is a really blatant news, we have only a few weeks on one or the other HP press events, where he went to exactly these devices.

2. HP wants to separate from webOS. I don’t know what exactly they want so much to do. The vision in the acquisition of Palm even incorporate webOS as an operating system in all possible devices, also in the printer, which would be served then elegant touch and are more or less autonomous computers on the network. Here are without limits of the imagination. The thing was only a minor flaw, namely:

3. It appears that Hewlett-Packard plans to separate from the full PC hardware business. The largest manufacturer of the computer in the world would be more. The PC Division is however not broken, but are separated in its own company, which is a candidate resume or exercise independently. When HP more is only no device including same webOS?

Of course, we could licence the mobile operating system to other manufacturers. These are possibly interested in alternatives to Android, not fully deliver OS Google supplier. The question is whether if it is better in this case not with Windows phone. Safe: webOS is and remains the ergononomischste and thoughtful OS Mobile, but apps for three years and a half with no usable ecosystem is simply very sexy step for most of the smartphone customers.

Takes away even Hewlett-Packard not ground under the feet then? Yes. HP also offers consulting, business services and software in the customer segment. This area appears to be much more profitable that difficult hardware. The acquisition of better adapted to the image analysis software “Autonomy” as manufacturer and webOS – sorry – really all them not. Occurs in reality only in the footsteps of IBM, HP has long been providing consulting and software in the first place and the Lenovo sold their hardware store a few years ago. Fans of old boxes ultra robust sushi named “thinkpad” are still sad about it. At HP, but just no comparable piece of hardware worship will be einfallen… me
